Job Summary

Research-Project Introduction & Purpose:

Understand success factors and increase capacity to successfully engage with equity, diversity, and inclusion through experiential class-based teamwork learning.

Your Role:

E-IDEA is looking for several enthusiastic and self-motivated students to support the Teamwork Initiative in the Faculty of Engineering. It is important that you have an interest in EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion), as well as in educational and pedagogical practice and methods.

In supporting us in our goal to learn more about teamwork in the engineering education and to improve the pedagogical practices at the university level, you will be collecting, documenting, and analysing data.

This role will provide the opportunity to listen and document student feedback about the Teamwork Initiative, analyse common strengths and challenges faced by both students and professors, and help create relevant assignments that relate to teamwork. We need you to track data that emerges from the assignments (notable themes and trends in students’ teamwork projects), as well as help educate teaching staff to integrate teamwork projects into their undergraduate course syllabi. This is not a TA role, it is a position intended to support the research for the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusivity in the context of teamwork in studies of engineering.

The RA role builds your own professional capacities. You’re encouraged to take time to attend on-campus events relating to EDI and pedagogical practice. Together with the E-IDEA team of RA’s and pedagogical Specialists, we will create a community of practice where we share resources and learning.

Education / Experience

Student at McGill University (ideally in the field of pedagogy/education) but other fields possible/welcome.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities

· Interest in pedagogical practices and EDI, working well in teams

· Strong communication skills (verbal and in English writing)

· Self-motivated, reliable, committed, detail orientated

· Needs to be available in-person for the total duration of the project
