On July 11, 2019, Canadian Minister of Science and Sport, Kirsty Duncan, joined McGill University's Vice-Principal, Administration and Finance, Yves Beauchamp, in signing the Dimensions (EDI) Charter, as well as announcing funding through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grants program.

The Dimensions program invites post-secondary institutions across Canada to enhance the quality of their research through a commitment to principles of social equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The goal is for participating institutions to adopt policies and practices that tackle the barriers faced by those underrepresented in research communities. This includes, but is not limited to, women, Indigenous peoples, members of racialised groups, members of LGBTQ2+ groups, and those with disabilities. Representatives of the Chemical Engineering Equity & Diversity Committee (chEDC) attended the signature ceremony as student champions of EDI initiatives within Engineering at McGill.
